Taste and See

Hey Everybody!
What an exciting time of year, isn't it?! With Thanksgiving just past, and now Christmas and a whole new year right around the corner! Its a good time to reflect over another year of God's faithfulness to us, and how good He is!
Have you ever opened the Bible up, and the first thing you see just grabs your attention, and it is exactly what you needed to hear? That happened to me this morning. I was captured by Psalm 34, so I would just like to share a little bit of it with you. (I would recommend reading the whole thing sometime!) Verse 8 says:

"O taste and see that the LORD is good;
How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!"
This verse tells us to "taste" and see that the Lord is good. Lets talk about tasting for just a minute. I'm sure you know someone---whether its a sibling, friend, or maybe even yourself---who can be very picky when it comes to food. Trying something new is never an option for them! The picky eater can look at a dish from across the room, and instantly decide whether or not they like it without even tasting it! The problem is, even if you do get them to try something they think they won't like, 99% of the time they will not like it, simply because they had already made up their mind that they wouldn't! Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to pick on finnicky eaters! The point being, in our walk with God, lets not just stick with what we know we'll like. Sometimes it can be easy to say "no" to God when He calls us to do something. Maybe its different from what everyone else is doing, or we think we won't like it. But the verse doesn't say, "Taste and decide for yourself if God and His plans are good." It says, "Taste and see that the LORD IS good." His plan for us is good, there is no question about that. The question is whether or not we are willing to accept it, to taste it, and to follow His leading. If we will step out in faith and follow God, we will certainly see how good He is! The verse closes by saying, "How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!"
What an awesome God we serve!
